"It is rural postal workers who help preserve the traditional way of rural life. The profession of postal worker is hard work regardless of the season. These people walk dozens of kilometres to deliver correspondence, pensions or social benefits. Rural residents know postmen by sight and respect them. Sometimes they become the very support for elderly or lonely people that is so lacking. The competition shows these very sincere and caring people to our entire great country, including residents of urban agglomerations. We believe the competition should become annual," said Alexander Dvoinykh.
A total of more than 3,000 applications were received for the competition. Over 135,000 people from across the country cast their votes for the "People's Postman."
