New opportunities for the development of single-industry towns will be discussed at the National Centre RUSSIA
04.20

An open discussion, "Space of Opportunities: A New Life for Small Industrial Towns," will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA on April 24 as part of the architectural exposition "The Birth of Scale." Participants will discuss new opportunities and prospects for the development of the country's industrial towns.

Single-industry towns, or factory towns, which were originally created as self-sufficient areas, are now facing serious challenges: population outflow, economic stagnation, and gradual infrastructure obsolescence. At the same time, their industrial legacy can become a driver for development through a promising new direction — industrial tourism, capable of attracting investment and revitalizing the local economy.

These issues will be the subject of an expert discussion where specialists will consider strategies for cooperation among government, business, and local communities. The discussion will address finding a balance between preserving the industrial legacy and creating conditions for modern life that can stop the population outflow and lead single-industry towns to a new stage of development.

Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mikhailik, Deputy Director of the Department of Strategic Projects of the Russian Ministry of Construction Yulia Talalaykina, Director General of the Andrei Melnichenko Charitable Foundation Tatyana Zhuravleva, Managing Partner of the Research Centre "Kartfond" Rakim Mahmudov, Director General of bureau "ATOM," member of the expert council of the Russian Ministry of Construction on forming a comfortable urban environment Darya Bondareva, and co-founder of the architectural bureau "KOD" Anastasia Konareva will participate in the expert dialogue. The discussion will be moderated by Anton Finogenov, Director for the Development of the Urban Environment at DOM.RF.

The event will conclude with a curatorial tour of the exposition "The Birth of Scale," conducted by Anatoly Oksenyuk, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the A.V. Shchusev State Research Museum of Architecture.

Registration for the open discussion and other events as part of the exposition "The Birth of Scale" is free on the National Centre RUSSIA website russia.ru. Current information about the events is available in the "Events" section.

Partners of the exposition "The Birth of Scale" include DOM.RF, the Russian Ministry of Construction, Gazprom, the A.V. Shchusev State Research Museum of Architecture, the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the Yakov Chernikhov International Foundation, and the HSE University School of Design.
