The V International Conference on the Spread of Extremist Ideology opened at the National Centre RUSSIA
The V International Conference on the Spread of Extremist Ideology, organised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, has opened at the National Centre RUSSIA on Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment in Moscow.
In his opening speech, the State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Igor Zubov, emphasised that the conference is designed to coordinate joint activities and to find mutually acceptable solutions in countering extremist manifestations.
In his report, the Head of the Main Directorate for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Lieutenant General Oleg Ilinykh, drew the delegates’ attention to an extremely acute and pressing issue – the spread of neo-Nazi ideas in several countries and the strengthening of nationalist armed groups, which, with external support, create systemic risks to public security. The Head of the Directorate informed the participants about the conceptual approach of the Russian Federation, based on the provisions of the Strategy for Countering Extremism. This document defines all aspects of the fight against this phenomenon – from ideological confrontation to operational measures.
"Today, the updated version of the Strategy is a practical ‘road map’ for all branches of government and civil society institutions, directly aimed at neutralising the threat of neo-Nazism," stressed Oleg Ilinykh.
The international forum, which will last for two days, brings together representatives from more than 40 countries and six international organisations.
