Iceberg transportation as a source of fresh water to be discussed at the National Centre RUSSIA
Transporting icebergs across the ocean may sound like the plot of a science fiction film, yet Abdullah Al Shehi, founder of the UAE Iceberg Project, believes it could become a real solution to water supply challenges in arid regions. He will present his concept to participants of the Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future: Geography" on 11 April at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"In my presentation, I will explain how bold ideas and innovative thinking can help address one of humanity’s greatest challenges — global water security. I will share the concept behind the UAE Iceberg Project and discuss how transporting natural icebergs could become a source of fresh water for arid regions in the future. The future belongs to those who dare to create new solutions for our planet. I invite you to join this exciting discussion. See you there!" said Abdullah Al Shehi, founder of the UAE Iceberg Project and Chief Executive Officer of National Advisor Bureau Limited.
The Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future" is an original project of the National Centre RUSSIA, which premiered on 7 February 2026. The first session focused on storytelling in advertising, cinema and video games. The next lecture turns to geography — a discipline that is becoming an essential tool for shaping the future.
On 11 April, experts at the Lecture Hall will demonstrate that the world map is not a static document but a dynamic system evolving before our eyes. The discussion will focus on three themes — "Geography of Travel", "Geography of Hidden Worlds" and "Climate and the Geography of Resources". Each of them is expected to reshape how audiences perceive maps, travel and the field of geography, while also helping to form a collective vision of the future.
Admission is free with prior registration on the website russia.ru. Further details are available in the "Events" section.
