A meeting of the Council under the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District, Anatoly Seryshev, is taking place on 3 April at the National Centre RUSSIA on the Yenisei. The key topic of discussion is the prospects for the development of the tourism industry.

"For the economy of the Siberian Federal District, the tourism industry is one of the priority areas of development. We have every opportunity to attract tourist flows: unique historical and natural landmarks, distinctive history and culture, and most importantly, hospitable people," said Anatoly Seryshev.

Participants noted that tourist flows in Siberian regions are growing, but the current pace is insufficient to achieve the targets set by the Head of State: by 2030, the share of the tourism industry in the country’s GDP should increase to 5%, and tourist flows should reach 140 million people.

"Our task is to create conditions in the Siberian regions under which travel across Siberia becomes accessible and attractive for every traveller," the plenipotentiary representative added.

It was also noted that the development of the hospitality industry has a positive impact on related sectors of regional economies, contributing to the creation of new jobs in transport, catering, trade, construction and many other areas. Over the past two years, total tax revenues from tourism enterprises in the regions of the district have doubled to nearly 6 billion roubles.

"A comprehensive approach is needed for tourism development — routes to tourist sites and the necessary infrastructure must be planned in advance, taking into account the strategic development of the region," the plenipotentiary representative emphasised.

During the meeting, chaired by the plenipotentiary representative, representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, heads of regional administrations, leaders of legislative bodies in Siberia, and members of the business community are discussing key tasks aimed at stimulating the development of the sector. The agenda includes improving transport accessibility, legalising the shadow tourism sector, increasing the investment attractiveness of territories and training personnel.

The National Centre RUSSIA in the Krasnoyarsk Territory has become a key venue for such an important discussion on the future of Siberian tourism. Since its opening, it has welcomed more than 40,000 visitors from across the country. The exposition "Energy of People — Energy of Krasnoyarsk Territory" is rightly considered the most modern and one of the most striking tourist attractions of the region.
