Vladimir Putin: Defender of the Fatherland Day unites generations and symbolises the unity of the people
Defender of the Fatherland Day symbolises the continuity of
generations of Russia's defenders, the unity of the people, and respect for
those who have served at all times, and serve the country today, continuing the
traditions of courage, patriotism, and responsibility for its security and
future. This was stated by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir
Putin, in his congratulatory message on 23 February.
"The date of 23 February has been marked in our country
for many decades as one of the most significant state holidays. It has become a
symbol of sincere popular love for our defenders; a symbol of pride in the
nation's army, navy, and in those who have dedicated their lives to serving the
Fatherland, who reliably stand guard over its sovereignty and security, who are
faithful to their military oath and honestly, conscientiously fulfil their
professional duty. From generation to generation, we carefully preserve the
memory of every page of the Fatherland's military chronicle. It was created
thanks to the military skill of great commanders, the unyielding will and
courage of soldiers and commanders, our ancestors, who at the first call of the
Motherland took their place in the ranks alongside their
comrades-in-arms," said Vladimir Putin.
The Head of state reminded the audience that 2026 has been
declared the Year of the Unity of Peoples. He stated that from time immemorial,
people of different nationalities and faiths have risen to defend the country.
The feeling of patriotism and responsibility for the fate of the Motherland
cemented their unity, inspired them to military feats and great, immortal
victories.
According to Vladimir Putin, today's generation of Russia's
warriors worthily continues the traditions of valour and honour bequeathed by
our ancestors. Today, representatives of all the peoples of our vast country
stand shoulder to shoulder defending Russia's interests.
"I cordially congratulate all citizens of Russia,
veterans, the personnel and civilian staff of the Armed Forces on Defender of
the Fatherland Day <...> I would like to express the deepest respect to
all who are fighting for the Fatherland. Eternal memory to the heroes who fell
for our people," added the President of Russia.
