The influence of biotechnology on nutrition to be discussed by experts at the "Inventing the Future" Symposium
In the future, biotechnology and artificial intelligence will play a key role in the approach to nutrition. One of the speakers at the International Symposium "Inventing the Future," Oksana Kuznetsova, Director of the Gorbatov Federal Research Centre for Food Systems under the Russian Academy of Sciences, shared her thoughts on how food products and dietary habits are likely to evolve.
According to the expert, basic foods will remain the same in the future, but their production methods will be significantly enhanced through the use of artificial intelligence and robotics.
"In 20 to 30 years, we’ll still be eating the same types of food we eat today. Basic products like meat, milk, vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, and others will remain unchanged, but their production will heavily involve artificial intelligence, and many technologies will be fully automated. We’ll also see the advent of smart packaging. You’ll be able to check the quality of a product with a regular smartphone," explained Oksana Kuznetsova.
In the future, biotechnology will enable the production of all the essential nutrients our bodies need: vitamins, amino acids, bioactive substances, and flavor components. Humanity will be able to produce food with less environmental impact and greater health benefits.
"Advances in biotechnology and artificial intelligence will have great effect for creation of personalized nutrition. By understanding genetic, physiological, and psycho-emotional characteristics of the body, as well as considering job specifics, hobbies, and local environment, it will be possible to create and produce food tailored to an individual’s current state," Kuznetsova affirmed.
According to Kuznetsova, people will be able to assess their health status with a smartphone. Based on this data, a program could create a personalized daily menu with links to delivery services, restaurant addresses, or recipes and shopping lists. This, according to the scientist, could become a reality in the near future.
Advancements in agricultural technologies will be one of the main topics of the roundtable on "Food Security and the Food of the Future" as part of the "Inventing the Future" Symposium. Roundtable participants will try to address questions, including what food will look like in the future. The discussion will be moderated by Elvira Dovletyarova, Director of the Agrarian-Technological Institute of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN).
From November 4 to 6, the National Centre RUSSIA will host the International Symposium "Inventing the Future." The participants will include scientists and researchers, futurologists and forecasters, science fiction writers, and representatives of the authorities.
The Symposium will become a unique international platform for open dialog, where the scenarios of human development and global challenges of our time will be discussed. The program includes more than 60 events in four areas: the future of human, the future of technology, the future of the multipolar world, and the future of civilization.
The event will be attended by scientists, futurologists, government and business representatives from more than 100 countries, including Austria, Argentina, India, China, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others.
