Russian Crab Festival dedicated to the opening of the National Centre RUSSIA branch in the Primorye region kicks off in Vladivostok
On 29 August, the Russian Crab Festival opened on the
Sportivnaya Embankment in Vladivostok. The event will run until 14 September.
This gastronomic celebration is timed to the upcoming opening of the branch of
the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye region.
"The Crab Festival is a kind of prologue to the
large-scale cultural project that will begin with the opening of the Centre in
the region. For Vladivostok, crab is more than just a product. It is a
recognisable gastronomic symbol and part of cultural identity," noted
Vitaly Stanislavchuk, Head of the branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in the
Primorye region.
Leading players in the region’s gastronomic industry are
taking part in the festival: the restaurant-tourist attraction Millionka, the
legendary Zuma, the largest restaurant chain Tokyo, the largest drive-in café
chain Eda i Tochka, and the first breakfast cafe chain Omelette Station.
Especially for the event, the Russian Crab Group of Companies supplied crab
meat for the preparation of more than 20,000 portions from the festival menu.
On the opening days of the festival and the branch of the
National Centre RUSSIA, the team of chefs participating in the festival held
gastronomic shows and culinary workshops on cooking Russian dishes with crab.
The curator and host of the Festival programme was Yekaterina Shapovalova,
author and head of the federal project "Gastronomic Map of Russia".
On Saturday, 30 August, a team of chefs from the participating restaurants
prepared a large Far Eastern fish soup with crab. More than 650 portions were
tasted by festival guests.
"We support initiatives aimed at introducing,
preserving and popularising national culinary traditions. During the two weeks
of the festival, guests will be able to try dumplings, pancakes with crab, fish
soup and okroshka, even ice cream with crab and other dishes of the Far Eastern
branch of Russian cuisine. Crab is a treasure and pride of Russia. It is
precisely large street festivals that help form a culture of consumption of
this product in a democratic and accessible format. Given Russia’s leadership
in crab harvesting, this is one of the country’s most anticipated street
festivals. The practice of annual mono-festivals in the Primorye region should
be replicated as a separate format that attracts visitors to regions from all
over the country," said Festival curator Yekaterina Shapovalova, author
and head of the federal project "Gastronomic Map of Russia".
The organiser of the festival is the Russian Crab Group of
Companies, with the support of the Visit Primorye Tourist Information Centre,
the National Centre RUSSIA and the federal project "Gastronomic Map of
Russia". The event is part of the region’s systematic work to promote Far
Eastern cuisine, Russian regional products, culture and tourism.
The concert programme dedicated to the opening of the branch
of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye region will take place on 7
September at 16:00 on the Sportivnaya Embankment. It will begin with a flag
march and the dance flash mob "The Beautiful Faraway", a tradition
that originated at the International RUSSIA EXPO. At that time, it brought
together hundreds of thousands of participants and received many positive
reviews. The celebration will continue with a concert featuring music groups
from the Primorye region and stars of Russian pop, and in addition, guests will
be treated to a surprise — a special guest.
The Primorye region will become the first region where, on
the instructions of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, a
branch of the National Centre RUSSIA will open. The new venue will feature
modern high-tech expositions of the region, a department store of local and
other Russian brands, a gastronomic zone, a coworking space and areas for
business and cultural events.
By tradition, every Monday at the National Centre RUSSIA is a technical maintenance day, and even Knowledge Day on 1 September will be no exception.
Our digest brings together not only the main events but also the ideas, emotions and moods that set the tone for the past week at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"Fishing Industry" will be one of the expositions of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye region.
