The magic of tabletop journeys: discovering new horizons at the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA
To catch the northern lights and race on a dog sled without
leaving Moscow — at the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA, this
becomes a reality. Here, board games turn into an exciting adventure for the
whole family.
In the educational games section, visitors will find
"Bears and Salmon" — an unusual strategy game based on a real natural
phenomenon: the spawning of salmon in Kamchatka. One player controls a shoal of
fish heading to spawning grounds, while the other manages bears seeking to gain
weight before winter. There is no room for chance here — only tactics,
carefully planned moves and attempts to anticipate an opponent’s strategy. The
game helps players understand how natural processes function and why everything
in the wild follows its own laws.
Those who enjoy training memory and attention may choose
"Memo", featuring illustrations inspired by fairytale Kamchatka.
Bright cards help players remember images while introducing children and adults
to the northern region through depictions of animals, landscapes and local
legends.
For those who dream of seeing the northern lights, the board
game "Catch the Northern Lights" has been created. Players travel
across the Murmansk region, discovering its nature, culture and landmarks. This
is not merely a roll of the dice, but a journey requiring route choices,
strategic thinking and learning new facts about the North along the way.
The board game "Beringia" transports participants
to Kamchatka, along the route of the famous dog sled race. The board is styled
as a map of the peninsula, and as the game progresses, players reveal rivers,
volcanoes and settlements. The sled dogs are based on real prototypes, complete
with authentic names and characteristics. The game not only entertains but also
gently immerses players in the world of northern expeditions and life in a
harsh climate.
Another journey awaits guests of the Department Store in the
game "Homeland of Whales and Airplanes". This is a route-based game
about the Khabarovsk region, where intellectual, creative and physical
challenges help players assemble their own itinerary of impressions. Four
themed boards tell the story of the region’s capital, its nature, industry and
history, each designed by a different artist. In the finale, players assemble a
unique journey from cards, crowned by the silhouette of a fantastical
"whaloplane", while learning about the geography, culture and modern
enterprises of the region.
All these games share one common feature: they make
discovering Russia engaging and dynamic. Through vivid illustrations,
well-designed mechanics and atmospheric storytelling, children and adults learn
to notice details, remember facts, think strategically and explore the regions
of the country with curiosity.
