Renewable generation as a source of reliable and affordable electricity: round table at the Exposition
Pavilion No. 46 "Energy of
Life" hosted a round table discussion "Energy Transition to the Far
East: Renewable Generation as a Source of Reliable and Affordable
Electricity!".
"In the course of the discussion,
we managed to define a trajectory for further movement both in terms of
transformations in the regulatory framework and in terms of the necessary
technical solutions. The main point of consensus was that, given the shorter
construction time and almost two times lower cost compared to coal or gas, RES
generation has excellent prospects for development in the region, including for
closing the electricity deficit," said Alexei Zhikharev, Director of the
Renewable Energy Development Association.
Vladimir Tupikin, Chairman of the
Supervisory Board of the Energy Consumers Community Association, Director of
Energy and Resource Supply at SIBUR, pointed out the prospects for the Russian
Far East regions in the renewable energy sector.
"The turn of Russian industry to
the east means the expansion of transportation corridor opportunities and the
development of the Far East as a region with great potential. This potential
was previously represented by the mining and transport industries, now gas
chemistry is actively developing. The energy sector should not only follow the
path of these changes, it should support these processes," emphasized
Vladimir Tupikin, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Energy Consumers
Community Association and Director for Energy and Resource Supply at SIBUR.
He specifically focused the attention
of the audience on the Amur region, where, according to him, there are
conditions for the development of RES generation.
"Now is the golden hour of
renewable energy sources in the Far East, where not only the deficit of
capacity, but also of electricity has been uncovered. Now our focus is on solar
energy and wind. I visit the Amur region almost monthly and not once have I
been in the region during bad weather. This is an exceptional region with
little snow and quite a lot of sunny days," Vladimir Tupikin pointed out.
Pavel Snikkars, Deputy Minister of
Energy of the Russian Federation, noted that solar and wind generation has in
fact become many times cheaper than fuel generation, and the Far Eastern
regions of the Russian Federation can cover the shortage of electricity and
capacity with RES-generation facilities on their territory.
"We would like to involve the Far East regions in interregional cooperation on renewable energy sources. Our main task is reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers, so this option of development is interesting to us," said Pavel Snikkars, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.
The International RUSSIA EXPO is the most important achievements of the country gathered in one place. Visitors are presented expositions of 89 Russian regions, leading federal departments, corporations and public organizations. More than 9 million people have already visited the Exposition.
Visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA can savor the southern cuisine of Crimea at the Gastronomic Rows.
The Day of Crimea’s Reunification with Russia is celebrated on March 18.
