The Young Tour Guides School at the National Centre RUSSIA helps schoolchildren find their voice, master the art of public speaking and take their first step towards a profession. For many, it also becomes a major step towards the future. Polina Artyomenkova is one such example. Thanks to her training at the School, she not only became a practising tour guide at the National Centre RUSSIA, but also fulfilled her dream of enrolling in the Faculty of History at Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Polina’s professional journey began at the International RUSSIA EXPO, where she first tried her hand as a tour guide. The tradition of the Young Tour Guide School continued at the National Centre RUSSIA, meaning that she completed the training twice.

"Training at the Young Tour Guides School gave me so much. First, it opened up new opportunities: I became a tour guide at the truly important space of the National Centre RUSSIA, and I feel that my work benefits people. When guests leave smiling and expressing their gratitude after every tour, I understand that the hour was not spent in vain. Second, the School gave me the communication skills that I lacked so much. I can now communicate freely with people, and this ability will be useful in any profession. The crowning achievement of my training was the tour that I conducted with the other young guides for our President, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. It was a highly valuable and unforgettable experience," Polina Artyomenkova shared.

Polina plans to build her future career around history and culture. She hopes that the knowledge she gains at one of the country’s most prestigious universities will help her make her tours even more informative and engaging.

"I have loved history since childhood, and I try to emphasise it in my tours because I believe that remembering our roots is incredibly important for future generations. I am delighted that studying at Russia’s Young Tour Guides School helped me gain admission to my dream university. I hope that I will be able to share some of the knowledge I acquire there with the people who attend my tours. Incidentally, future applicants should take note: I received several additional admission points specifically because I had studied at the Young Tour Guides School at the National Centre RUSSIA," she added.

The programme combines theoretical and practical classes. From their very first sessions, the young participants acquire the necessary knowledge and gradually prepare to conduct their first tours at the National Centre RUSSIA. One of the programme’s main objectives is to teach young guides not merely to memorise texts about the expositions, but to find their original approach, delivery and style under the guidance of experienced mentors. Upon completing the programme, the young guides independently conduct tours of the National Centre RUSSIA expositions, putting the knowledge and skills they have acquired into practice.

"If you want to develop your skills, be open and sociable, and become people of the future, then Russia’s Young Tour Guides School is definitely the place for you. It is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life, and you will never regret making this choice," Polina Artyomenkova told her peers.

"Russia’s Young Tour Guides School" is an original career-guidance project of the National Centre RUSSIA for schoolchildren. It continues the work of the Young Tour Guide School at the International RUSSIA EXPO and has already developed into a large, close-knit community bringing together more than 100 children and mentors from different regions. The National Centre RUSSIA branches in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Primorye Territory and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area — Yugra have also joined the project.
