Football stars in Krasnoyarsk at the "Russia – Country of Sports" Forum
21 October is Youth Day at the "Russia – Country of
Sports" Forum. Russia national team head coach Valery Karpin, Russian
champion Denis Glushakov, Euro 2008 bronze medallist Dmitry Sychev and Russian
champion Guilherme Marinato shared their experience during the session "How
to Become a Professional and Succeed in Any Industry: Lessons from Russian
Football Legends", organised by the Russian Football Union.
The footballers said they were delighted to visit Krasnoyarsk, a city
passionate about sport, and looked forward to spending the next few days
sharing their thoughts and listening to colleagues and local residents
attending the meeting.
The audience actively joined the discussion. Answering questions, the
footballers shared how they had coped psychologically with retirement, how to
deal with the injuries that inevitably occur in professional sport, and how to
respond to constructive and unconstructive criticism.
The star guests also discussed life after retiring from football. Valery Karpin
said: "I believe it is important to leave football at the right time.
Everyone understands that life continues after a professional sporting career,
but you need to prepare mentally for it. Many go into business and later return
to football as coaches or club executives. In such cases, management experience
helps them run a team."
Dmitry Sychev, who became President of the Omsk football club Irtysh after
retiring as a player, added: "The main task after your career is to keep
moving forward, learn new things and do something useful. Taking charge of my
hometown club was a challenge I felt compelled to accept out of patriotism,
despite all the difficulties. A great deal of work went into preparing for it,
and I obtained the relevant qualifications. Football gave me a foundation that
can be applied in many fields; you just need to use it properly. Above all, it
is important to help the younger generation, compete successfully with gadgets
for their attention and give young people opportunities to develop through
sport."
The XIV International Forum "Russia – Country of Sports" is one of
the sporting sector’s key events, held in accordance with a decree of the
President of the Russian Federation and with support from the Russian
Government. It brings together more than 3,000 participants, including
representatives of government bodies and businesses, physical education and
sport experts, heads of sports federations, journalists and prominent athletes.
Its aims are to discuss strategic priorities for developing sport in Russia,
strengthen international cooperation, exchange best practices, and discuss the
development of children’s and youth sport and improvements to the organisation
of sporting events.
The "Treasury" is a special project of the National Centre RUSSIA showcasing unique exhibits from the collections of the country's leading museums.
