Novosibirsk is the third most populous city in Russia. In less than 70 years, the city's population has grown up to one million people! It borders Tomsk, Omsk, Kemerovo Regions, Altai Territory and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Novosibirsk Region is the largest research, education and innovation center in Russia. More than 97,000 students study in 22 higher education institutions, which offer more than 500 majors and more than 1,000 additional education programs. Novosibirsk Region has 70 industry-specific research institutes and more than 100 large and 1,700 small businesses involved in technology and innovation activities. Novosibirsk Region's competitive advantage is the powerful complex of scientific organizations. The main areas of scientific development – nuclear research, biomedicine, biotechnology, IT, engineering, machine building, power engineering, aviation and space. Akademgorodok (translated as "Academic Town") and Koltsovo science town are not only the scientific center, but also the center of scientific tourism in Siberia. Do you know that the "smartest street in the world" is located in Novosibirsk? It is called after academician Lavrentiev (Lavrentiev Prospect) and located in Akademgorodok. There are more than twenty research institutes, including the famous and mysterious Institute of Nuclear Physics and its two hadron colliders, are located on academician Lavrentiev Prospect.
Laboratory mice are the real heroes of scientific labor. These small animals help scientists to study diseases and develop medicines. Monument to the laboratory mouse that knits DNA is located in Akademgorodok. The fox monument is located in Akademgorodok too. A friendly fox sits next to Dmitry Belyaev, the greatest geneticist, who 70 years ago started the experiment in Akademgorodok to study behavioral deviations of wild animals in communication with people. Now kind foxes live in Akademgorodok.
The largest scientific center in the east of Russia – the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences – have created the powerful scientific and industrial base in the region. Building and putting into operation the Siberian Ring Photon Source (complex of buildings, engineering and technological equipment, providing international scientific research on synchrotron radiation beams) will allow the city to make a new step in the development of medicine and energy.

Novosibirsk Region is significant not only for its scientific and educational complex, but also for its developed industrial sector. The region's leading industries are mechanical engineering, metalworking, aircraft industry, oil refinery, woodworking, light industry and food industry.
Novosibirsk is the largest transport and logistic hub in Siberia, the largest railways, airways, car and river routes are crossed in Novosibirsk. It is a place of concentration and distribution of cargo in radius of 600-650 km.
Novosibirsk connects Siberia, the Far East and Central Asia with European regions of Russia. The most important transportation routes in the country cross the region: Trans-Siberian Railway (east-west direction), North-South Railway to Central Asia, Trans-Siberian pipelines, and federal highways.
Novosibirsk International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest transit air hub beyond the Urals, which connects Novosibirsk with Russian cities, near and far abroad countries. Passenger traffic of domestic flights is more than 6 million passengers per year, international flights – more than 883 thousand passengers per year.
Novosibirsk develops and implements infrastructure projects, building warehouse facilities and logistics parks, such as Industrial and Logistics Park, Rusagromarket-Novosibirsk, Kleshchikha Container Terminal, Tolmachevo Intermodal Cargo Terminal, Eurosib-Terminal-Novosibirsk Logistics Center, Vostochny Terminal, and Russian Post sorting hub.
