Republic of Altai
The territory of the republic is 92.9 thousand sq. km.
The predominant terrain is mountainous.
The highest Altai mountain - Belukha (Kadyn-Bazhy) which is 4509 m, is also the highest peak in Siberia.
Huge reserves of high quality fresh water are contained in the mountain lakes of Altai. Only in Lake Teletskoye there are more than 40 cubic kilometers of clean water.
Gorny Altai has cultural and national traditions, which may be of interest to such fields of science as archaeology, folklore, linguistics, history and others.
