Republic of Khakassia
The Republic of Khakassia is located on the territory of the Altai-Sayan Plateau and the Khakass-Minusinsk Basin. The taiga-covered mountains surround the central plain steppe part of the region, which creates a unique climate. Khakassia has a rich archeological past, contrasting and diverse nature, and the original culture of the Khakass people.
The Republic of Khakassia is a small territory in the south of Siberia, on the left bank of the Yenisei. The predominant terrain are steppes, mountains and taiga. There are more than 500 lakes, 330 rivers and small brooks in the republic.
The Republic of Khakassia is a part of the Siberian Federal District and is subdivided into eight districts and five cities. The population of the republic is 534,000 people, the indigenous population are Khakasses.
Khakassia is a developed agro-industrial republic with a steady rate of economic growth. The main spheres of industry are hydroelectric power engineering, metal production, and mining. The main direction of agriculture is livestock breeding. The service sector and tourist infrastructure are well developed.
The most powerful, high and ambitious in design hydroelectric power plant of Russia on the Yenisei River is located on the territory of the region. Molybdenum ore is mined and processed in Khakassia.
