“The backbone of the state” – it is no coincidence that this quote from Alexander Tvardovsky’s poem “Far Beyond the Distance” was used as the motto on the coat of arms of the Sverdlovsk region.

The first ironworks were established here back in the XVII century. The city of Yekaterinburg was founded as a factory-fortress by the decree of Peter the Great in 1723.
