Zabaykalsky region
This year marks 370 anniversary of the accession of the Zabaykalsky region to Russia. Following the instructions of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, the Cossack pioneers reached the Chinese borders, “with kindness and greetings” inclining the local population to Russian citizenship. Zabaykalye gave Russia access to China, the first Russian silver, a springboard for the development of the Far East and many of Russia's best sons. And today this land remains the richest, unique region on the map of our Motherland.
The Zabaykalsky region is a huge storehouse of solid minerals, vast expanses for the forestry and agricultural industries, a magnificent multi-faceted nature, unforgettable cuisine, vibrant festivals and inexhaustible opportunities for travel, active recreation, hunting and fishing. Here are the oldest churches and holy places beyond Lake Baikal, the great Buddhist place of power Alkhanay. This is a hospitable, sunny, unique region with enormous opportunities.
