25 reasons for pride: airport modernisation – new air gateways of Russia
The modernisation of airports is not only about convenience and comfort. It is about a new country that is moving forward.
We continue our special project "25 Reasons for Pride," dedicated to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the first inauguration of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. This date marked the beginning of a new era — a time of development, openness to the world, and large-scale transformations in the country’s transport system.
Over the past 20 years, more than 80 airports have been built or renovated in Russia. Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Pulkovo, Simferopol, Vladivostok, Rostov-on-Don, Grozny, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Khabarovsk, Sochi — terminals in these cities meet global standards in terms of comfort, safety, and technology.
Biometric screening and check-in systems, digital kiosks, and paperless boarding systems have been introduced. Simferopol Airport was recognised as the best regional airport in Eastern Europe by Skytrax.
Domestic passenger traffic has reached record levels: over 100 million people fly annually within Russia and beyond.
