Architecture in fashion: a new section in the "Department Store" space at the National Centre RUSSIA
A new "Fashion" zone has opened in the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA. This spring season, it will feature works by fashion artist and Candidate of Art History Sergey Sysoev from the Fall-Winter 2024/25 collection, as well as designs by students of the SERGEY SYSOEV Fashion School at the Kosygin Russian State University.
The displayed pieces showcase how architecture interacts with fashion and is reinterpreted in fashion designers' collections.
In Sergey Sysoev's works, architectural elements of VDNH — stucco moldings, ceramic panels, and bronze sculptures — are transformed into prints and decorative elements of the collections.
The exposition also presents works by the designer’s students. These pieces reflect artistic strategies in which science, architecture, and design intertwine in unconventional forms. While mastering the fundamentals of the profession, students of the school gain the opportunity to present their works at major expositions and fashion shows.
Young designer Yevgenia Makarova incorporated elements of Zaryadye Park into her dress, while Lev Khlebnikov recreated the aesthetics of 1990s panel houses in his original prints. Alexandra Popadyko drew inspiration from Stalinist architecture, Alisa Getalova explored brutalism, Ksenia Dukhanova reflected on space exploration, and Diana Koltashova found inspiration in the carved terem of blacksmith Sergei Kirillov.
On March 11, the National Centre RUSSIA hosted another event as part of the project "Open School: Presentation of Best Practices."
