Experts of the "Inventing the Future: Geography" Lecture Hall to map out tomorrow
On 11 April, guests of the National Centre RUSSIA will attempt to create a collective image of the future — through geography, technology, and personal experience. The Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future: Geography" is a place where Russian and international experts will discuss how the role of geography is changing in the modern world — from space exploration and investigating ocean depths to climate challenges and new forms of travel.
The world is entering an era where geography is becoming a tool for designing the future: space exploration, climate scenarios, and new technologies are changing not only the space but also the person themselves. Who is this pioneer of tomorrow? The one who storms space and plunges into the ocean abyss, or the one who seeks themselves in the Arctic ice and the neon lights of megacities? Russian and international experts at the Open Lecture Hall will attempt to answer these and other questions.
The event will focus on three themes, each of which is changing the conventional understanding of geography.
Geography of travel. A true traveller knows: the journey is not about "ticking boxes". Above all, it is an effective tool for self-discovery. Together with experts, the audience will explore which points on the map — from the harsh Arctic to comfortable megacities — are becoming catalysts for personal change, and why moving from mere consumption to the search for meaning is becoming one of the main trends in tourism.
Geography of hidden worlds. Humanity is moving beyond familiar maps. The next step to make is space as a new "continent" and the unsolved mysteries of Earth, like the Mariana Trench and subglacial lakes of Antarctica. The Lecture Hall attendees will ponder what technologies will help to carefully develop these territories and where the strongholds of a new civilisation will be located.
Climate and geography of resources. Climate change is a process that is rewriting economies, affecting nature, and altering lifestyles. Which regions might find themselves at risk, and who, conversely, might suddenly gain new advantages? How can we develop in a world where the old rules no longer apply? This and much more will be discussed in the third block of the event.
A special musical set will help create a deep immersion in the atmosphere of the future, allowing guests to experience the discussed themes on an emotional level. Programme participants will also have a unique opportunity to become co-authors of a collective installation — a shared "map of the future".
The event will conclude with a gastronomic workshop. Renowned chefs will explain how geography, technology, and local products are changing human nutrition and influencing eating habits.
The Open Lecture Hall "Inventing the Future: Geography" will be a gathering point for pioneers — those who not just look at the world map, but are ready to recreate it. Admission to the event is free of charge, with prior registration on the website russia.ru. Keep an eye on updates in the "Events" section.
The gaming industry is turning into a major economic and cultural phenomenon.
These emerging trends were discussed by participants of the panel discussion "Stories in Advertising and Consumption" at the National Centre RUSSIA.
