New Year tree of the Kurgan region: delicate painting and birch bark boxes
Real products with Ural-Siberian painting decorate the region’s fir tree at VDNH. The ornaments are created by craftsmen at once, «by eye» — as a result, the image is very lively and unconstrained. In the old days, squirrel tails and hare’s feet were often used instead of brushes.
The main technique of Ural-Siberian painting is called «razbel». A flat brush was used to take white paint on one edge and colored paint on the other. The brush was rotated so that the whitewash lay on the outer edge of the stroke, along the contour of the motif. Thus, smooth transitions of color and soft and delicate outlines of the drawing were created.
The main elements of painting are flowers, fruits, berries, leaves, images of birds. Often the composition was decorated with a painted frame, which is a characteristic feature of the painting.
Also, in the decoration of the fir tree birch bark boxes made by craftsmen of the region are used.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by New Year fir trees, each representing a region of the country.
