Primorye region Christmas tree: real shells from the Sea of Japan instead of balls
Hundreds of Far Eastern scallop shells were collected by Vladivostok restaurateurs to decorate the New Year tree at the country’s main exposition.
The color scheme reminds of the turquoise bays of a distant region, where the Sea of Japan roars and the air is saturated with sea salt and mists.
The Primorye region has the only marine reserve in Russia, 97,5% of which is occupied by the sea. On an area of more than 64 thousand hectares live giant octopuses, sea cucumbers, sea urchin, mollusks, Far Eastern sea cucumbers, seals, and the islands are home to bird colonies with thousands of birds.
It is not surprising that Primorye decorators focused specifically on the marine theme: the spruce is decorated with stylized images of marine fauna and Far Eastern birds, as well as powerful ropes that imitate garlands and remind us of fishing — one of the main industries for the inhabitants of the region in the Sea of Japan.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by 89 fir trees, each of which represents a region of the country with its folk arts and crafts and traditions. And the 90th blue spruce represents the RUSSIA EXPO itself. The trees came from the Moscow region, where they have been carefully cultivated for many years. After the exposition, the spruces will be planted near VDNH. The International RUSSIA EXPO is the most important achievements of the country gathered in one place. Here the guests are welcomed with cultural and entertainment events, a rich business and educational program. The expositions of 89 Russian regions, leading federal departments, corporations and public organizations are presented to the visitors.
