Tile art in Russia has existed for more than 10 centuries. The earliest Russian tiles date back to the X century - they are the same age as the baptism of Russia. According to historians, many technologies and complex crafts, such as cloisonné enamel, glass, polychrome ceramics, known to the ancient Rus people long before the emergence of these technologies in Europe, were lost during the Mongol yoke.
The Suzdal tradition of making tiles has survived to our times. The stoves of the Cross Chamber of the Suzdal Kremlin are a masterpiece of tile art.
