"Proud of Victories": The Alley of Glory of Russian schoolchildren opened at the Exposition
The "Alley of Glory" dedicated to the victories of Russian schoolchildren at international Olympiads has opened at the RUSSIA EXPO. The new exposition presents more than 100 original awards from international Olympiads in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, geography, astronomy and astrophysics, as well as in natural sciences among juniors. The exposition is organized by the Russian Society "Knowledge" with the support of the Ministry of Education of Russia.
Russia is traditionally one of the three countries in the world in terms of the largest number of gold and silver medals won at competitions in mathematics, astronomy, physics and chemistry. Over the past 20 years, Russian schoolchildren have won 859 medals, of which 468 were of the highest caliber. This result speaks not only about the talent of our children, but also about the effective education system, which gives everyone an opportunity to develop their abilities.
Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova spoke at the opening ceremony.
"Today at the International RUSSIA EXPO, a unique project is launched - the Alley of Glory of our medalists is being opened. Of the 468 gold medals that have been received by our children since 2000, 109 are presented here. This means that for many years our country has been among the leaders in the field of education. This is very pleasant. The year 2023 was no exception, 34 of 43 medals of the highest, golden dignity were Russian," said Tatyana Golikova.
Opening the "Alley of Glory", Tatyana Golikova expressed gratitude to the families of Olympiad students and their mentors. She emphasized that with the support of the President of Russia, a decision was made to accompany winners and prize-winners of international Olympiads and help them find jobs in major domestic companies.
The event was attended by the heroes of the new exposition: Maria Volobueva, winner of the International Astronomy Olympiad; Nikita Panfilov, winner of the International Geography Olympiad; Alexei Shishkin, winner of the International Junior Natural Science Olympiad, the International Physics and Chemistry Olympiad; Mikhail Matveev, winner of the International Junior Natural Science Olympiad and the International Chemistry Olympiad; Danila Demin, winner of the International Mathematics Olympiad; Roman Kozhevnikov, winner of the IJSO International Junior Natural Science Olympiad; Alisa Timonina, winner of the IBO International Schoolchildren's Biology Olympiad.
The winners of the International Olympiads and their mentors were greeted by the Minister of Education of Russia Sergei Kravtsov.
"We are proud of your victories. You represented our country among many states, and you became the first. When schoolchildren come to the RUSSIA EXPO, they will see the medals, and they will know that this result is achievable. You are an example for other children, many people look up to you. Today the Olympiad movement is very developed among schoolchildren. The total annual coverage is 7 million children," emphasized Sergei Kravtsov.
The Minister of Education drew attention to the fact that with the support of the President of Russia much is being done in the country to discover the talents of every schoolchild - new schools are being built, major repairs are being carried out, children's recreation is being developed.
The participants of the ceremony were also congratulated by Maxim Dreval, Director General of the Russian Society "Knowledge".
"Today, 109 medals won by Russian schoolchildren at the International Olympiads have appeared in the exposition of the "Alley of Glory". What is behind this three-digit figure? Talent and perseverance of our children, the highest quality of school training, and also the incredible dedication of our teachers. No matter how technology evolves, one thing remains the same - people learn from people. I am happy that the winners of the Olympiads later become mentors themselves, and with one victory a whole chain of victories begins. It is deeply symbolic that the "Alley of Glory" dedicated to schoolchildren was opened at the RUSSIA EXPO. All the achievements that are presented here are the result of the work of people who were once schoolchildren too. Everything that Russia is proud of today was once their dream. And I want to wish today's schoolchildren not to be afraid to pursue their dreams and not to postpone the first step, because the best moment is now," Maxim Dreval added.
On the opening day of the new "Alley of Glory" the winners of the International School Olympiads personally conducted thematic excursions for the guests. Danila Demin acted as a tour guide in Pavilion No. 57 "Russia - My History", where he introduced the guests to the exposition "Decade of Science and Technology" of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. Alexei Shishkin introduced the audience to the exposition of Pavilion No. 19 "ATOM". The children learned how the BREST nuclear reactor is designed. Nikita Panfilov gave the participants of the educational program a tour of the exposition of the Russian Geographical Society, shared his knowledge about the peculiarities of urbanism in the southern cities of Russia and spoke about his projects and the preparation of Russian children for geography Olympiads.
On February 21, the Russian Society "Knowledge" will organize an extensive educational program timed to coincide with the opening of the new exposition. Pavilion No. 57 "Russia - My History" will host an open dialog on how to raise an Olympiad winner, as well as a science show, battles and stand-up.
