The three-day Architectural Hackathon, organized by the National Centre RUSSIA in cooperation with the Government of the Donetsk People's Republic, brought together young architects and students of architectural universities of Russia. From July 16 to July 18, they worked on projects which will shape the new look of the country's historical territories. During the final panel discussion, head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin, a representative of the main "client" of the projects, carefully examined the submitted works and gave the authors constructive feedback.

"Of course, the final decision will be made by people, but I am a resident of our beloved region, too, and I can say that I really like the solutions that you have proposed. They are not only beautiful by themselves, but they can also be saturated with additional elements and meanings," Denis Pushilin said.

The head of the Republic also noted that the young architects took a comprehensive approach to projects’ creation, having worked out not only the constructive and semantic, but also the practical component.

"I think it's very right. For example, I look at one of the projects and see that Donetsk residents will play chess here, and drink tea in a gazebo there. And I immediately want to visit these places. So, I think that your decisions will find people's support," he said.

Denis Pushilin added that well-maintained park locations are necessary, first of all, for residents of industrial cities and small towns, because there are quite a lot of them on the territory of Donbas.

"Small settlements have really not been given due attention, and this is wrong and unfair. There live people who associate their future with the region, so such spaces are very necessary for them.. And if you add more bright colors to these spaces, then people's mood will improve. See, we have a lot of industrial and coal towns, and, of course, gray monotonous high-rise buildings are depressing, and there is something to think about and redo," concluded the head of the region.

The Architectural Hackathon was held at the National Centre RUSSIA from July 16 to July 18. More than 70 students from architectural universities and faculties of Russia worked on its theme, "The Cultural Code of Historical Regions Based on the Park Environment." The Patriot Park (DPR), Molodogvardeysk City Park (LPR), the Central Alley of Skadovsk (Kherson region), and the Maxim Gorky Melitopol City Park of Culture and Recreation (Zaporizhia region) became specific objects of future improvement. They were chosen by the organizers of the project together with the regional ministries of construction. An extensive educational and business program was also held for the participants of the event.
