Celebrating a Russian wedding: Sofya Ernst's performance was presented at the RUSSIA EXPO
The RUSSIA EXPO hosted an immersive performance "Wedding" by the "Istok" project of actress and producer Sofya Ernst, dedicated to the development and popularization of Russian folk culture among young people. Its participants — the bride and groom, as well as bridesmaids, bridegrooms and guests — showed all the ritual stages of a traditional Russian wedding.
At the beginning of the performance the future newlyweds were met by an accordionist and ethnic music specialists who played Russian folk music. Then the bride went to the bachelorette party "to cry and wail" as a sign of farewell to her maidenhood and native home, as well as rebirth into a married woman.
Afterward, the groom, along with his guests, went to the bride's house for the traditional bride price. Then the young family took a blessing for a long and happy life from their parents, going to the "good wedding table".
The holiday ended with pleasant toasts and sincere wishes to the newlyweds, which were accompanied by dancing to Russian folk songs.
On April 18, actress and producer Sofya Ernst spoke about her project "Getting Married" at the Exposition as part of the lecture "Synthesis of Folk Traditions and Modern Culture". The event was organized with the support of "Istok".
"Getting Married" is a series of documentary films, which show the process of preparation for the main family celebration. Each series is devoted to the organization of a wedding in the traditions and rituals of a particular region of Russia. The project avoids direct copying and manages to create an unforgettable event for newlyweds that reproduces the cultural code.
The large-scale "Journey Across Russia" project will launch at the National Centre RUSSIA on March 1.
