PERFORMANCE BY KHOMUS PLAYER MIKHAIL KORNILOV AND MASTERCLASS ON PLAYING THE KHOMUS 6+

The Yakut khomus (vargan) is an ancient musical instrument of the peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), which is more than five thousand years old.

It is distinguished by its characteristic cosmic sound — it has been considered an instrument of Yakut shamans since ancient times. Even today the Yakut khomus retains its sacral significance and is used in various rituals. That is why in Yakutia it is not just an instrument, but a real symbol of the national culture of the Sakha people. Local craftsmen have carried the secrets of making sonorous and colorful vargans through the centuries.
