Exquisite Yelets lace, Pokrov gingerbread and Dymkovo toys: what the regions presented at the stand of the Department Store of the National Centre RUSSIA
The
Department Store stand became a significant part of the international
industrial exposition INNOPROM 2025, offering manufacturers from across Russia
an opportunity to enter international markets. Regional producers showcased
both traditional and contemporary goods, including designer accessories, folk
crafts, groceries, and cosmetics made from natural ingredients.
Among the
highlights were Dymkovo toys, unique items crafted from simbircite stone,
Yelets lace, Pokrov gingerbread and many other products on display at the
department store stand of the National Centre RUSSIA.
Ulyanovsk Region
Producers
from the Ulyanovsk region presented items made from simbircite, a stone that
retains the traces of ancient mollusc shells—ammonites. The pattern on the
stones displays a variety of yellow shades, fine pyrite veins, and occasionally
cavities filled with crystals (geodes). The rock used to make these items has a
unique composition typical of the region’s deposits: magnesian calcite
(simbircite), aragonite, fossilised nacre (flammalite), pyrite, marl, as well
as haematite, dolomite, quartz, and chabazite.
Lipetsk Region
Visitors to
the department store discovered the cultural legacy of the Lipetsk region
through its iconic folk crafts, which continue to attract interest even from
international partners. These included Yelets lace, created by artisans using
up to 1,500 bobbins. These intricate works, combining linen, silk and cotton
threads, have remained a hallmark of the region for centuries. Also popular was
the Romanov toy – a unique clay whistle preserving both the warmth of the
artisan’s hands and centuries-old traditions of folk creativity.
Kirov
Region
The region
showcased a wide variety of folk crafts, including Vyatka painting, known for
its rich colours and deep symbolism. The display featured recognisable Dymkovo
toys, crafted using a technique that has been passed down for five centuries.
Special attention was drawn to matryoshka dolls inlaid with rye straw,
exquisite hand-crafted porcelain, and Vyatka baskets. These products not only
preserve tradition but also receive a contemporary design interpretation,
making them competitive in the global market.
Vladimir
Region
The
Vladimir region presented products with a rich history. These included Pokrov
gingerbread made according to old recipes with caramelised condensed milk and
walnuts—demonstrating how gastronomic traditions can become part of modern food
design. The artistic ceramics of Dymov Ceramics and the legendary Gusev
crystal, with its distinctive brilliance, serve as proof that Russian crafts
meet the highest international standards of quality.
