"How Tsar Peter Did Something Over There" - a performance from the Platonov Festival program was shown at the RUSSIA EXPO
The plot
centers on Tsar Peter, who entered the popular culture. The fairy-tale tinge to
the historical facts is given by a legend in which the Tsar is not only a great
sovereign, but also a witty, resourceful hero who even manages to get the moon
from the sky. The roles in the performance were played by the artists of the
Voronezh Academic Street (VAU) Theater - a team of talented actors, stilt
walkers, acrobats, musicians, improvisers, who explore new forms and
technologies to create bright and spectacular performances in their hometown
and across Russia.
"Our performance is a historical and
artistic study by director Anna Shishkina, artistic director of the oldest
street theater in Russia, "Mr. Pejo's Wandering Dolls." In the
production we use stilts, acrobatics, author's masks, narrative in the style of
a rayok (lit. Russian fair peep-show), interactive with the audience and puppet
theater," said Eleonora River, director of the VAU theater.
Eleonora
River said that the creation of VAU Theater was initiated by the International
Platonov Arts Festival in 2022.
"We
were asked to play five to ten productions in a year, but in our first season
we managed to visit ten cities and perform the production 21 times. Now we are
opening our third season and we already have five plays in our
repertoire," Eleanora River emphasized.
She also
admitted that it was very exciting for VAU theater artists to perform in front
of the guests of such a large-scale venue as the RUSSIA EXPO.
"There
is excitement before every performance, because every venue has its own
peculiarities. Each performance depends on a thousand factors - from the
weather to the props. Each time we adapt to a new venue," added Eleanora
River.
