The land of lakes, the beginning of Russia and the cradle of Russian Orthodoxy: the Pskov region at the RUSSIA EXPO
Thousands of lakes, the most ancient defence structures, the only monastery in Russia, which has never been closed for 550 years of its existence. At the stand of the Pskov region in Pavilion 75 at the RUSSIA EXPO you can ride a bicycle through the sights of the region and listen to an audio tour by Gosha Kutsenko, Merited Artist of Russia, theater and film actor.
Throughout its long history, Pskov was captured by the enemy only once - and that was only because of the boyars' betrayal. Alexander Nevsky became a military leader here, Pushkin lived and was buried here, and Nicholas II abdicated from the throne of the Russian Empire.
The Holy Dormition Pskov-Pechersk Monastery is the only monastery in Russia that has never been closed for 550 years of its history. The Pskov Judicial Charter was the first full-scale monument of Russian civil law.
At the stand of the Pskov кegion in Pavilion 75, guests will be greeted by Princess Olga and Prince Alexander Nevsky. Visitors will be able to make a virtual journey through the region, get acquainted with its centuries-old history, and learn about the region's cutting-edge projects.
- Pskov region is a land of lakes. There are more than 3700 lakes scattered on the territory of the region, from large ones, like the Pskov-Chudskoye Lake (Lake Peipus), to very small ones.
- Pskov had its own mint, which produced its own coinage, and then, until its closure in 1632, minted money for the entire Russian state.
- Pskov was considered the blacksmith capital of Russia - almost every Pskov family had a blacksmith, and the city supplied the whole district with hardware.
- From XIII to XVIII century Pskov survived 130 wars, and only once, due to the deception of boyars, was captured by enemies.
The large-scale "Journey Across Russia" project will launch at the National Centre RUSSIA on March 1.
