Dishes of the peoples of the Russian Far East were presented at the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye region on 5 December. This marked the launch of the first regional festival "Cuisines of the Peoples of Russia". The event brought together 17 colleges from across the Primorye region. The festival is held with the support of the Ministry of Vocational Education and Employment.

The event became the culmination of a month-long marathon dedicated to Russian cuisine, which took place in all colleges of the region from 5 November. After the marathon ended, the baton passed to Far Eastern cuisine — the central theme of the final event, which brought together college students, schoolchildren, teachers and representatives of the regional authorities.

The Minister of Tourism of the region, Natalia Naboychenko, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks.

"We in the Primorye region are always at the forefront. We are not only the gateway to the Asia-Pacific region; we are the gateway to new ideas and projects. The festival we are holding makes it possible to study magnificent, sometimes forgotten traditions at a professional level and to share them at the highest level. This is how the idea of hosting a festival of the cuisines of the peoples of Russia was born — this is the beginning of our true movement," the Minister said.

Students presented dishes of the peoples of Primorye and the Far East, demonstrated techniques for working with local ingredients, and conducted workshops and tastings. Guests were able to learn both traditional recipes and modern interpretations of Far Eastern cuisine.

"The colleges searched for distinctive features and traditions of regional cuisines; I would especially like to thank the College of Service Technology and the Spassk Industrial and Economic College. Our participants are outstanding — our admiration knows no bounds," said the Deputy Minister of Vocational Education of Primorye, Larisa Khasbutdinova.

The festival aims to promote the culinary legacy of the region, develop students’ professional skills and strengthen cooperation between educational institutions, the industry and the cultural community. It is expected that next year will be dedicated to the cuisines of the Siberian region.

"The start has been excellent, and in the future we will find even better approaches and prove that Primorye’s gastronomy is top-tier thanks to the education system that trains its specialists. It is from this solid foundation that entrepreneurs, restaurateurs, chefs, technologists and confectioners emerge," the Deputy Minister noted.

The organisers of the festival are the Ministry of Vocational Education and Employment of the Primorye region, the Regional Academic and Methodological Association "Culinary and Confectionery Arts", and the College of Service Technology, where the network programme "School of Gastronomy" is implemented.
