The RANEPA Lyceum presented the best educational practices at the National Centre RUSSIA
On March 11, the National Centre RUSSIA hosted another event as part of the project "Open School: Presentation of Best Practices." Teachers and graduates of the Lyceum of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) introduced the audience to successful educational methods.
The RANEPA Lyceum was established nine years ago as part of the "Moscow Pre-University" program. Today, the educational institution has more than 420 students, with an average age of 16-17 years. There are only 15 such university-affiliated schools in Moscow.
According to the Lyceum’s Director, Zhanna Podkovyrkina, its educational structure and content differ significantly from what is traditionally considered a standard Russian school.
"Parents who entrust us with their children are, in a sense, experimenters who send their kids to very unconventional schools. University-affiliated schools are, to some extent, pedagogical laboratories. We test approaches that are not yet common practice in the Russian Federation, using the resources provided by the Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. At the same time, we naturally remain within the country’s educational and legal framework. However, we hope that the experience of our innovative projects will be valuable not only for university-affiliated schools but also for a wide range of educators and educational organizations across our country," noted Zhanna Podkovyrkina, Director of the RANEPA Lyceum.
The meeting participants learned about the key principles of the Lyceum's work, its atmosphere, and traditions. They also took part in interactive lectures aimed at broadening their horizons. Special attention was given to the practical aspects of educational technologies.
Law professor and Candidate of Legal Sciences Sofia Moreyeva explained what academic blocks are and why they are an essential part of the RANEPA Lyceum. Maxim Mozgachev, Deputy Director of the Lyceum, professor of economic disciplines, and Candidate of Economic Sciences, emphasized the importance of financial literacy in the digital world. He discussed how to develop critical thinking skills in finance and debunked myths about investing. Ursula Ann Rice, Head of the English Language Department and professor, introduced the Lyceum's language policy, which includes the study of seven foreign languages.
As part of the event, prospective students learned about the format and requirements for admission to the Lyceum and received advice and recommendations from teachers on preparing for entrance exams. Ivan Kurilovich, professor of philosophy and Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, invited the audience to participate in a smartphone-based test, allowing them to experience a part of the interview process required for admission to the 10th grade.
The meeting concluded with a creative performance by the Lyceum’s graduates and the traditional passing of the "Open School" project cup to the next participant — Moscow General Education School No. 1409.
The National Centre RUSSIA’s project "Open School: Presentation of Best Practices" serves as a unique platform for exchanging innovative approaches in education. The project’s events bring together teachers, students, parents, graduates of pedagogical universities, and young professionals.
One of the main goals of "Open School" is to demonstrate that school education can and should be engaging and effective, helping young people discover their talents and empowering them to become successful, in-demand, and fulfilled individuals.
