Maxim Oreshkin at the National Centre RUSSIA: BRICS countries will play an increasingly important role in the world
One of the key processes shaping the modern world is the growing strength of BRICS. Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of Russia, spoke about this at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club. For the first time, the Club's flagship event is being held at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"The influence of BRICS countries is growing in the economy, trade and technology. They are becoming stronger and more resilient and are playing an increasingly important role in the development of humanity. This is an objective, fundamental process. The importance of BRICS will only continue to grow each year, and Russia, as one of the member countries, will play a significant role in this," emphasised Maxim Oreshkin.
The flagship conference of the Valdai Discussion Club brought together 120 participants from 40 countries, including Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Canada, China, Malaysia, the UAE, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Turkey, France, Switzerland, Ethiopia, South Africa and Japan.
The organisers and participants of the forum believe that despite the crisis in the global order and the unprecedented escalation of conflicts, it is important to continue analysing what the future may look like in order to retain the ability to influence how it takes shape. Responsibility for the future was a central theme that shaped the agenda of Valdai events throughout the year. Participants in the main Valdai meeting discussed the question of how manageable and predictable international affairs can remain amid the crisis of multilateral institutions. They also examined the possible consequences of escalating military and political tensions, the restructuring of trade and economic ties, and the introduction of new technologies, and assessed the responsibility of states and their role in the future world order.
