Maria Zakharova shared her vision of what the diplomat of the future will be like
The philosophy of the diplomatic profession will remain unchanged in the near future. Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, stated this on 8 October at the National Centre RUSSIA.
"The concept of a diplomat — whether a hundred years ago or a hundred years from now — is always about the ability to reach an agreement. There are fundamental professions and genres that go beyond centuries, even millennia," Maria Zakharova emphasised.
She noted that writers and poets have always had ways to share their works — through books, periodicals, or the Internet. This expands their audience, yet the opportunity to be heard through literature remains unchanged, she said.
"It’s the same with diplomacy: new technical opportunities will emerge, new tasks will arise, and the scale of challenges will change. But the essence — the profession that becomes a true calling for some — will stay the same," Maria Zakharova added.
The Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia spoke as part of the II International Symposium "Inventing the Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA during the session "The Evolution of Public Diplomacy: From Traditional Communication to Digital Storytelling". The Symposium is organised on the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, under the auspices of the Decade of Science and Technology.
