The music of the Russian soul: men’s choir from Voronezh declared love for the Motherland at the National Centre RUSSIA
On 13 September, the Men’s Choir of the Voronezh Philharmonic ART’o’dox presented the concert programme "Voronezh — City of Russia" at the National Centre RUSSIA. Patriotic and lyrical works reflecting the richness of Russian musical tradition were performed as part of the Voronezh region’s themed week at the exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the Future".
"We are pleased to present the cultural programme of the Voronezh region at the exposition 'Region-2030. Platform of the Future'. Our concert opened with a brand-new song dedicated to our native Voronezh, written specially for the 300th anniversary of the Voronezh Governorate, which is celebrated this year. And, of course, we are delighted to give the audience well-known musical compositions that glorify our great and beautiful country," said Anastasia Shevneva, Head of the Concert Department of the Voronezh Philharmonic.
The programme included famous songs "I Look at the Blue Lakes" ("Glyazhu v ozera siniye"), "The Enchanted Distance" ("Zacharovannaya dal"), "I Love You, Life" ("Ya lyublyu tebya, zhizn") and others, as well as modern hits "The Sky of the Slavs" ("Nebo slavyan"), "Fog" ("Tuman") and "I Am Russian" ("Ya russkiy"). A special place in the concert was given to the song "The World Has Never Known Soldiers Like Those in Russia" ("Takikh soldat, kak v Rossii, ne znaet mir"), composed by Maxim Fadeyev with lyrics by Natalia Kasimtseva. Created with the participation of fighters of the special military operation, this patriotic composition has become the anthem of the State Fund "Defenders of the Fatherland".
"Thank you, dear friends, for the warm welcome. I would like to wish our guys victory, our regions, in whose honour we are performing today, prosperity, and our country to move only forward. Forward, Russia!" said ART’o’dox soloist Yevgeny Starikov.
According to the audience, the music did more than just sound — it awakened a sense of unity and belonging to Russia’s culture and history.
"It was piercing! The choir does not just sing — it conveys the soul of our country. The song about the soldiers especially touched me: such sincerity and power. And of course, I gladly ‘shook off the old days’ to the song 'The Sky of the Slavs' ('Nebo slavyan')," shared Ruslan from Moscow.
The Men’s Choir ART’o’dox is one of the oldest and most respected creative groups of the Voronezh region. Founded in 1990, it has gained recognition both in Russia and abroad. The group has taken part in the International Festival in Memory of Anthony of Sourozh in the United Kingdom and the International Competition "The Heart of Choirs" in Shanghai, performed at Victory Day concerts in Berlin and at the Moscow Easter Festival under the baton of Valery Gergiev. The choir is also a finalist of the popular television show "All Together Now!" ("Nu-ka, vse vmeste! Khorom!").
The Days of the Voronezh region at the exposition "Region-2030. Platform of the Future" at the National Centre RUSSIA are held from 9 to 14 September. The programme of the region’s themed week includes lectures and workshops, presentations, performances by artists and groups, distribution of souvenirs and much more.
