The guests of the stand of the Arkhangelsk region at the VDNH became participants of an exciting program filled with beautiful melodies and unusual sounds. Alexei Karpov, a talented performer and winner of international awards, showed that even such a simple instrument as a two-handed saw can create real musical masterpieces.
Alexei plays several musical instruments and sings, and the choice of instrument for this program was not accidental. As the musician noted, the saw is a symbolic phenomenon for our region, rich in forests and culture.
“I was at the Exposition at the end of December, saw the stands of other regions, got acquainted and communicated with people from all over Russia, - said Alexei Karpov. - That's when I realized that my solo performance on the saw would best represent and, as part of the cultural code, reflect my beloved Arkhangelsk region in the eyes of the audience".
The one-hour program included domestic and foreign musical hits. Thus, Muscovites and guests of the capital were able to hear the unusual performance of “Ave Maria” and “Moscow Evenings”, “Besame Mucho” and “Ray of the Golden Sun”, “Strangers in the Night” and “The Lonely Shepherd” and many other works.
The performer was enthusiastically welcomed not only by the visitors. Some employees of the Exposition, tour guides and employees of the regional stands came to every performance and brought their colleagues. Elena Skorokhodova, theater and cinema actress, director and poet, also came to listen to the performance of the Arkhangelsk resident. At the end of the program, as well as many others, she managed to try to play the “musical” saw herself.
“The saw is amazing, - noted one of the listeners. - With one side it kills trees, and with the other it heals the soul!"
