A section dedicated to the Future in Flowers festival has been added to the RUSSIA EXPO website. From May 8, visitors will be able to find out which plants have been chosen as symbols of each of the 89 Russian regions. The section will be complemented with photos of flowerbeds-expositions of regions, as well as departments and state corporations. It will be possible to vote for the favorite exposition.

"Our country is characterized by climatic and natural diversity, and this is reflected in the selection of symbol plants. Russia unites many diverse regions, each of which stands out with its unique features and cultural peculiarities, but despite this heterogeneity, they are all closely linked by a common historical heritage and aspiration for a common bright future," said Alena Perevoznik, head of the Future in Flowers project.

Some of them are known all over the world, such as wheat, which has become a symbol of one of the main grain-growing areas of the country, the Stavropol region. Others are recognized as examples of aesthetic beauty — among them is the lily of the valley, which represents Udmurtia at the festival. Lily of the valley was the favorite flower of the most famous native of the region, composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Viola Wittrockiana violet — "pansies" — became a symbol of St. Petersburg. In the difficult climate of the Northern Capital it is this flower that begins to please the eyes of the citizens as early as in April.

The red berry grows only in the easternmost region of Russia — Sakhalin, and that is why it was chosen as a symbol of the island. It is valued as a medicinal remedy that helps with a variety of ailments. And the westernmost region of the country, Kaliningrad region, will be represented at the festival by the seaside bluebell, which grows on the Curonian Spit. The plant has long become the most famous and recognizable representative of the Baltic nature.

You can learn about other plants — symbols of Russian regions on the festival page.
