Real curiosities from all over the country are gathered on the New Year alley of the RUSSIA EXPO
Reindeer moss and cloudberry, tambourines with ancestral spirits,
amber jewelry, Kalmyk domra and shells of the Far Eastern scallop. And all this
is real. Unusual decorations from different parts of our vast country can be
seen on New Year fir trees at the RUSSIA EXPO.
The decoration of the Kaliningrad region'sfir tree reminds us that 90% of the world's amber production is concentrated in the small village of Yantarny near Kaliningrad. Balls, snowflakes, mittens, bells - almost all Christmas tree decorations of the westernmost region of Russia are covered with amber. The decorations were made specially for the country's main exposition by craftsmen from Kaliningrad. A luxurious fir tree with the same decorations will also stand on the new stage of the Mariinsky Theatre this year.
Hundreds of Far Eastern scallop shells were collected by Vladivostok restaurateurs to decorate the Primorye region's New Year tree at the country's main exposition. The color scheme reminds us of turquoise bays of the distant region, where the Sea of Japan is roaring, and the air is saturated with sea salt and fogs.
Kalmykia is unique in every sense. It is the only region in Europe where Buddhism is the main religion, and the largest Buddhist temple in Europe is located here. The decor of the New Year tree reflects the beliefs and national motifs of the Kalmyk people: stylized temples, felt products, dolls and ceramics are placed among the branches. To decorate the tree, authentic folk instruments were used - national domras, which reflect the musical culture of Kalmykia.
Boundless tundra, deep lakes, unique species of wild animals - the nature of the Nenets Area is incredibly rich. The Nenets live in amazing harmony with the surrounding nature and call themselves "nenei nenech", which means "real people". Nowadays the economy of the region is based on oil and gas extraction. However, the indigenous people have been successfully developing fishing and reindeer herding for hundreds of years. The whole life of the indigenous people of the region is in one way or another connected with reindeer. Reindeer provide food, shelter, clothing and household items.
Reindeer moss - the basis of the reindeer's diet - became the main highlight of the New Year tree of the Nenets Area at VDNH. Decorators made New Year balls filled with real reindeer moss and cloudberry. A reduced copy of a tambourine was placed in the branches of the fir tree.
