The educational event "Diet for Life" took place on March 6 at the National Centre RUSSIA
As part of the exclusive program "Thursday. Development," the educational event "Diet for Life: Impact on the Body and Beauty" was held on March 6 at the National Centre RUSSIA. Experts spoke to guests about the importance of proper nutrition, helped them create a balanced diet, and provided tips for improving quality of life. The event's partner was the Russian society Znanie.
According to Dmitry Bystrov, a food technologist, Candidate of Technical Sciences, and Associate Professor at the Department of Food Industry, Hospitality Business, and Service of the Russian Biotechnological University, anyone can eat properly, deliciously, and healthily. The first step to improving one's diet is planning meals a week in advance. This helps avoid unnecessary expenses and stress. It is also important to include more vegetables, fruits, and plant-based protein in the diet while reducing meat consumption. If possible, highly processed foods such as sausages and semi-finished products should be completely excluded.
"When choosing food products, pay attention to the ingredients list. Remember that ingredients are listed in descending order. The first ingredient is the one present in the largest amount. Try to choose products with a simple and clear composition, free from various additives, flavor enhancers, and artificial flavorings," emphasized Dmitry Bystrov.
Another key rule in forming a diet is focusing on individual needs. It is important to exclude foods that are unsuitable due to allergies or individual intolerances and to adapt the diet to personal goals, such as weight loss, muscle gain, or blood sugar maintenance.
Nuriya Dianova, a dietitian, gastroenterologist of the 1st category, hepatologist, and food behavior psychologist, in her presentation, focused on the relationship between nutrition and health. The expert explained why it is important to reduce the consumption of red meat, how much salt and sugar can be consumed daily without harming health, and also explained how to form a balanced diet using the "plate principle," where half of the portion consists of vegetables and greens, a quarter is taken up by complex carbohydrates — any kind of cereal except white rice, and the remaining quarter is protein — eggs, meat, and fish.
"Health is everyone’s responsibility. It is our choices that determine the health we have and how active we are. One of the main problems in nutrition now is the lack of fiber, so it is very important to eat 400-500 grams of vegetables and fruits daily. The 'plate principle' helps with this a lot; it's a simple tool that allows a person to manage their diet without counting calories," noted the expert.
The doctor also explained how to snack healthily and what to replace familiar sweets with healthier and equally tasty alternatives. Several of the most beneficial eating strategies were presented to the guests: the Mediterranean diet, flexitarianism, and the MIND diet.
Natalya Baranova, a nutritionist and expert on nutrition for pregnant and breastfeeding women, explained to the participants the principles that help diversify the menu, talked about how to properly obtain collagen from foods to improve the condition of hair and skin, and revealed sources of energy and vitality.
At the end of the event, the experts answered questions from the guests in the hall, as well as questions from viewers of the broadcast.
