Shared breath and a rite with a braid: Tuvans held a wedding at the RUSSIA EXPO
What rite
seals the union of two Tuvan families and what is a "sneak kiss" -
the answers to these questions were revealed at the RUSSIA EXPO. The wedding of
natives of the Republic of Tuva took place there.
The
newlyweds' names are Nachyn Kunzen-ool and Belekmaa Ondar. They both study in
Moscow. The groom majoring in Electric Power and Electrical Engineering, and
the bride in the field of IT.
The ceremony was held according to Tuvan traditions. One of its main rites is dugdair. The bride's maiden braid is undone and divided into two, and then fastened with a special ornament. This symbolizes the joining of the destinies of the children of two different families. After that, the dowry is collected for the bride, she goes to the groom's house with her family.
An
important stage is the opening of the veil. It is a handkerchief, which is
passed from mother to daughter - as a symbol of the family. Another interesting
custom is the rite of "chyryktazhatyr" or "sneak kiss". The
bride holds a piece of meat in her mouth, and the groom must bite off a part of
it. At the same time, the lips of the newlyweds come closer together, and their
breath mixes and becomes "shared", uniting them. The ceremony ends
with the offering of the fat tail.
This
wedding became the tenth at the International RUSSIA EXPO. This was told by the
head of the Department of International Cooperation, Culture and Education of
the ANO «Directorate of the Exhibition of Achievements "Russia"»
Olesya Malevannaya. In total, about forty stylized wedding ceremonies are
planned.
"So
many people gathered today to congratulate you. This is the tenth anniversary
wedding at the Exposition. On behalf of the Directorate, we wish you happiness
and love and present you with memorable gifts", - said Olesya Malevannaya.
