One of the key sectors of the Russian economy: achievements in the energy sector were discussed at the exposition
The plenary session "Leadership and Sustainability of
the Russian Energy Sector" was held at the RUSSIA EXPO. It opened the
thematic day of the National Achievements Forum.
Today, the energy sector is one of the key sectors of the
Russian economy, and over the past 20 years it has made a huge leap in its
development, said Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
"Such economic growth was achieved due to the personal
attention of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This has allowed the industry to
reach its maximum performance over the past 20 years. The industry holds about
20% of GDP in the Russian economy. It is responsible for about 60% of exports,
as well as about 30% of federal budget revenues," Alexander Novak said.
The biggest part of the fuel and energy complex is oil -
Russia accounts for 10% of its global production. About two thousand fields are
being developed in the country. At the same time, it is now becoming more
difficult to get oil - in this regard, the Russian Government supports the
industry, said the Deputy Prime Minister - in particular, it provides
assistance in the development of offshore deposits and production in Eastern
Siberia. The development of new fields entails the development of the industry
as a whole, including oil refining. Now Russia is facing the task of achieving
technological sovereignty in the oil industry, Alexander Novak noted.
Natural gas plays an equally important role for the country.
Russia is the second largest producer and exporter of this resource in the
world. Now one of the priorities is to connect the unified gas supply system
with the eastern one - this is a grand historical task, the Deputy Prime
Minister emphasized.
"This will increase the reliability and efficiency of
the industry, involve new fields in development - and thus ensure further
gasification," Alexander Novak said.
Another direction is the production of liquefied natural gas
(LNG). Russia has moved from zero to the fourth place in the world in this
market, said the Deputy Prime Minister. Its production amounts to 31.5 million
tons.
"The President has set a task to ensure that by 2035 we
reach the indicators of at least one hundred million tons of liquefied natural
gas production. This is an ambitious task, and for its realization it is
necessary to develop clusters of LNG production. These are the Yamal, Sakhalin
and Baltic clusters. Our task is to occupy at least 15-20% of the global LNG
market," said Alexander Novak.
In addition to working on the global markets, Russia is going
to become one of the most gasified countries in the world, said the Deputy
Prime Minister. Now the level of gasification is 73.8%. It is planned to
increase it to 83% by 2030.
In addition, coal production remains in demand in Russia.
Despite all forecasts, this hydrocarbon now accounts for 30% of the global
energy balance. Russia ranks fifth in coal production - in 2023 the volume
amounted to 438 million tons. More than half of the volume falls on the
Kemerovo region - Kuzbass. At the same time, new centers are being developed -
for example, in the Far East and Siberia.
"A coal industry development program has been approved.
One of its main directions is the development of modern coal mining
technologies. A modern coal mine is actually a factory underground: highly
mechanized, highly productive, with modern technologies. Our coal industry will
continue to develop in this direction. The key to success is modern
technologies and development of coal chemistry," Alexander Novak
emphasized.
Electricity accounts for the major part of Russia's fuel and
energy complex. One and a half million people are involved in the industry -
half of those employed in the energy sector. The capacity of the system is
about 255 thousand megawatts. At the same time, 86% of energy sources are
clean, which is more than the world average. Now the additional demand is about
4 thousand megawatts.
"We are talking about the construction of new
generation facilities in the Krasnodar region, Crimea, Siberia and the Far
East. This will ensure connection of new consumers and development of the
country's economic potential," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
He dwelt separately on oil and gas chemistry, noting that
the industry continues to grow and Russia is becoming an exporter in this area.
The first event to be held at the Russia National Centre, which is being established by the order of President Vladimir Putin, will be the International Science Fiction Symposium and Exhibition "Inventing the Future". The symposium will take place from November 4 to 6.
Tomorrow, the International RUSSIA EXPO will conclude its work. From November 2023 to July 2024, it was visited by more than 18 million guests.
Every day, for eight months, the RUSSIA EXPO delighted guests and gave unforgettable emotions.
