Staff from the Orel Regional Centre for Folk Art continue to work in the Orel pavilion at VDNH. From July 5 to 7, they are holding a series of educational sessions dedicated to traditional crafts.
Lilia Makarova, a folk artist from the Orel region, is teaching the creation of a women's neck decoration from the Orel region dating back to the late XIX - early XX century. Participants learn about the clothing and jewelry worn by our great-great-grandmothers. Under the guidance of the instructor, they make a "chipochka" for a cross from beads and soutache.
Lilia Makarova also conducts a master show on "Weaving a Gaitan from Beads." According to her, women from Orel have always loved to dress up. To make neck decorations, they used fabric, ribbons, braid and beads. A staff member of the Orel Regional Centre for Folk Art demonstrates the techniques for making a gaitan from beads using the "weaving" technique.
Natalya Ilyina, another folk artist from the Orel region, teaches traditional embroidery in the "painting" technique. This type of embroidery was widespread throughout the European part of Russia several centuries ago. In the Orel province, "painting" was used to create ornamental stripes that complemented drawn-thread embroidery on ceremonial towels. Guests in the Orel pavilion embroider a peacock bird in this technique.
