Excellent investment climate, unique industry and flawless diamonds - Smolensk region at the RUSSIA EXPO
The oldest Slavic land, the western outpost of the Russian state - the Smolensk region presented its achievements at the main exposition of the country. This year the capital of the region celebrated its anniversary — 1160 years since the first chronicle mention of Smolensk.
According to Vasily Anokhin, the Governor of the Smolensk region, it has advanced by 72 positions in the National Rating of Investment Climate within seven years and has confidently entered the top ten leading regions.
In five years, the Smolensk region has completed about 60 major investment projects, which brought four thousand new jobs to the region. A unique new generation nuclear power plant is under construction here.
Eight out of 10 "black boxes" of domestic aviation are produced at the Smolensk enterprise. Every fourth resident of Russia uses boilers from Smolensk region. The Roslavl railcar repair plant produces a unique platform car, which has no analogues in Russia. Smolensk is also famous for jewelry with flawless diamonds of "Russian cut", which are popular both in Russia and abroad.
Smolensk is a city of students, more than 44 thousand people study here.
"With the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, we are creating an interuniversity campus in Smolensk. The implementation of the project will lead to the transformation of the economic pattern of the region — by 2030 the share of high-tech industries in the structure of GRP of Smolensk region will increase to 25%", — emphasized Vasily Anokhin, the Governor of the Smolensk region.
Besides, Smolensk is the capital of northern silk. The Smolensk region ranks 1st in the Central Federal District and 3rd in Russia by the area of flax crops. Tourism has become one of the promising directions in the region's economy — the tourist flow has increased by 60% and reached 650 thousand people a year. Guests are attracted by the oldest brick fortress in the world — the Smolensk Kremlin, the Holy Assumption Cathedral, the Khmelita and Novospasskoye estates, the Gnezdovo festival, as well as museums and memorial sites associated with the life of the first Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
Guests of the stand of the Smolensk region visited the time loop, passing the way from the most ancient events to modern achievements. Visitors also learned about the Smolensk Lakes National Park, got acquainted with fascinating lakes of glacial origin, rare birds and animals. The most active ones could win a tour to the region.
