Poetry of the Russian soul: 130 years since the birth of Sergei Yesenin
On 3 October, we mark the 130th anniversary of the birth of
Sergei Yesenin — the poet who became the true voice of the Russian soul. His
verses, filled with tender sorrow and boundless love for the Motherland, have
resonated in the hearts of generations for more than a century.
A recent meeting of the Literary Club "What to Read?!" at the National Centre RUSSIA, dedicated to the poet’s work,
confirmed that Yesenin’s words remain alive and relevant.
"The phenomenon of Yesenin lies in the fact that each
generation rediscovers him in its own way, while retaining all the meanings he
invested in his works," said Alexei Chesnakov, head of the Academic
Council of the Centre for Political Conjuncture, professor at HSE University,
and author of the Telegram channel "Chesnakov. Library".
Yesenin’s poetry derives special power from his unbreakable
bond with his native land. The Ryazan region carefully preserves the memory of
the great poet: the village of Konstantinovo has forever remained the place
where the "land of calico birches" was born — the very land the poet
loved "forever".
"All of Yesenin’s poetic words are so alive, plastic
and burning to this day that it is impossible for the living Russian
consciousness to treat them simply as a monument of literature," said
Sergei Kunyaev, Director General of the journal "Nash Sovremennik",
historian of literature and one of the authors of the book "Sergei
Yesenin" in the series "Lives of Remarkable People".
Yesenin’s anniversary is more than just a date on the
calendar. It is an occasion to rediscover his work, in which the living,
trembling heart of our great country still beats.
