At the RUSSIA EXPO, the Pavilion No. 57 "Education/Decade of Science and Technology" hosted a strategic session "Priorities for the Development of Student Sports in the Russian Federation until 2030", organized by ITMO University with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. Within the framework of the strategic session a panel discussion "Student Sport 2030: a Look into the Future from the Present" was held.

"The development of student sports is one of the most important areas of work of the relevant ministries. Because it is not only a part of mass amateur sports, but also a forge of personnel for high-performance sports. Our athletes are now under unfair sanctions, but nevertheless we need to think about how we will enter the international arena. I am sure that in the near future this will happen," said Evgeny Revenko, member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sport, State Duma deputy, in his welcoming remarks via videoconference.

During the panel discussion "Student Sport 2030: a Look into the Future from the Present", Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, emphasized the importance and strategic significance of physical culture and sport in the sphere of social and cultural development.

"This event provides an opportunity to synchronize the interdepartmental agenda for the development of student sports until 2030, to make adjustments and additional directions. First of all, it is connected with the emerging challenges the country is facing and the tasks that cause a change in the system of values of both the student community and the country as a whole, — said Olga Petrova. — At present, new benchmarks are being formed, thanks to which we will be able to unite our efforts and solve urgent tasks".

Olga Petrova emphasized the special role in the development of student sports of the Ministry of Sport of Russia, the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the corps of rectors and vice-rectors of educational organizations, as well as the regional authorities that determine the course of sports life at the regional level.

The panel discussion was also attended by Maxim Urazov, Director of the Department of Physical Culture and Mass Sports of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, Yegor Litvinenko, Advisor to the Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Vladimir Mineev, Chairman of the All-Russian Youth Public Organization "Association of Student Sports Clubs of Russia", Alexei Agafonov, First Deputy Director General of the ANO "Russia — Land of Opportunity", and Sergei Agafonov, Executive Director of the Russian Student Basketball Association.

The strategic session is a one-day in-person congress of representatives of federal and regional public authorities, educational organizations of higher education, public organizations, student sports leagues and sports federations, as well as representatives of other agencies and organizations involved in the development of student sports.

The main topics for discussion during the strategic session were the optimal vision of the future of university sport in the Russian Federation and ways to achieve it. The industry experts discussed both the system of student sport in educational organizations of higher education and the role of physical culture and student sport in the harmonious development of student youth. They also considered the social effects of physical education of youth and student sport and methods of their measurement.
