"Roman Kostomarov: Born Twice" — premiere on March 7 at the RUSSIA EXPO
The documentary will premiere on March 7 at the RUSSIA EXPO. The movie will be presented by the Olympic champion in ice dancing himself, as well as members of the film crew. Famous athletes, including Tatiana Navka, Ilya Averbukh, Alexei Yagudin, as well as politicians, public figures, movie directors, actors and representatives of show business will be the guests of the premiere.
The Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov, his wife, world and European champion Oksana Domnina, director Mikhail Shchedrinsky and producer Maxim Allanazarov talked about working on the project.
"In July, when I came out of the hospital, I never imagined that there would be movie offers. I was completely out of it: I did not understand how to go on living, how to return home, how to show myself to my children. I was afraid to meet my friends, it was painful, disturbing and worrisome for me. Life had turned upside down, it was different. The first thing I did after leaving the hospital was to go to a show in Sochi with Ilya Averbukh. I wanted to start doing what I was used to doing again, to go out in public, albeit in sneakers. And the way I was received by the audience was inspiring. I began to go out in public more calmly after 175 days in the hospital," Roman Kostomarov said.
The documentary project "Roman Kostomarov: Born Twice" is a story about the struggle of the legendary athlete, who suffered a serious illness, and his return to a full life thanks to the support of his family, loved ones and the help of highly professional doctors.
The script of the movie was written by Julia Lemark. The picture is based on interviews with Roman Kostomarov himself, his wife Oksana Domnina, mother, daughter, ice dancing partner Tatiana Navka, friends, fellow athletes and doctors. In total, more than 30 hours of interviews were shot during the filming. In addition, the movie contains unique archive footage from Roman's life, as well as the chronicle of his rehabilitation and return to the ice.
The figure skater noted that he was delighted with the offer to make a movie. "There has never been such a movie in my life, after talking and thinking, my wife and I decided that this picture will be an example of strength of spirit and character, overcoming such cruel obstacles in life, from which one must come out worthy. I wanted to be an example for myself," he added.
In turn, the wife of Roman Kostomarov Oksana Domnina thanked the team that worked on the picture.
"I want to thank the whole team, the guys with whom we shared a piece of our lives. When it was suggested to make a documentary, I didn't think it would hit theaters. I realized that if Roman was busy, from a psychological point of view it would be easier for him to adapt to life. This occupation was supportive and inspiring," said Oksana Domnina.
The director of the film Mikhail Shchedrinsky also spoke about his impressions of working on the movie.
"It was unclear to me how to behave with a person in such a situation. When we shot the material, all people had such a feeling. Everyone was afraid of meeting Roman after the hospital. But after a few minutes of communication with him you forget about everything. Roma is funny, a real man. We have been around him for a long time, I hope we are not too boring. We shot 30 hours of interviews alone - not all of them, of course, are included in the movie," said Michael Shchedrinsky.
According to the producer of the film Maxim Allanazarov, only six months passed between the idea to create a movie and the release of the picture.
"The idea to make a movie came to me at the end of August-September. Initially the movie was supposed to be about Roma - an athlete, a man who overcame difficulties. In the end, it turned out to be broader - it is a picture about the family, about the heroes-doctors who pulled Roma from the other side, a picture about the fact that there is something more valuable in our lives than money," said Maxim Allanazarov.
Roman Kostomarov also invited everyone to watch the picture in cinemas. The film will be released in wide distribution on March 9.
"I think that the movie will not leave anyone indifferent. Take your handkerchiefs with you. But I tried to make it so that it brings out smiles as well. The documentary includes highlights from my youth, sports career. In the future, the TV series will also be released," Roman Kostomarov emphasized.
The first event to be held at the Russia National Centre, which is being established by the order of President Vladimir Putin, will be the International Science Fiction Symposium and Exhibition "Inventing the Future". The symposium will take place from November 4 to 6.
Tomorrow, the International RUSSIA EXPO will conclude its work. From November 2023 to July 2024, it was visited by more than 18 million guests.
Every day, for eight months, the RUSSIA EXPO delighted guests and gave unforgettable emotions.
