Social thriller or family drama: unique animation at the "Legacy for the Future" exposition
In the gallery of the National Centre RUSSIA, visitors can discover animated creations by Chinese artists and animators. Guests will dive into a fascinating journey through a new culture, encountering myths, legends, and traditions of China. The variety of genres, themes, and artistic approaches ensures that everyone can find a film that resonates with them.
For the "Legacy for the Future" exposition, animation students from art schools across China have shared their works. Among the most imaginative and extraordinary projects is "Zhuangzi's Magical Zoo."
"Zhuangzi" is a Daoist collection of parables written during the Warring States period, approximately in 300 BCE. It is a foundational text of Daoism. However, the animators chose to focus their work on the animals described in the treatise — both fantastical and real. These animal depictions reflect the philosophical and spiritual quests of ancient Chinese sages, many of which remain relevant today.
Viewers also appreciated the touching family drama "Homecoming." This is the story of an elderly woman searching for her son, who left for work and disappeared several years ago. She is aided in her quest by her granddaughter and a distant relative. Ultimately, the mother’s determination to find her child brings the family closer together and helps every viewer reflect on the importance of family values.
Another striking and unconventional story is "Zodiac Signs." The creators delve into the idea that in ancient societies, men and women were assigned roles as fixed as zodiac signs. However, in the modern world, such rigid roles often hinder individuality and personal expression.
You can attend a screening at any time during the "Legacy for the Future" exposition. It’s impossible to miss a session: the animated films are shown repeatedly throughout the day.
