"Modern technologies and AI are not capable of loving their country": Oscar Konyukhov especially for the National Centre RUSSIA
Modern technologies and artificial intelligence are not capable of loving their country. Oskar Konyukhov, traveler, son, and head of the expedition office of researcher, painter and writer Fyodor Konyukhov, made such a statement to the press service of the National Centre RUSSIA on Geographer's Day.
"It's all about romance. Only a human being remains romantic. Modern technologies and AI will not be able to love their country, their native land, where one was born and raised. Only a human being can find the motivation to explore our planet," says Oskar Konyukhov.
For almost 30 years, he has been in charge of the expedition office of all Fyodor Konyukhov's travels. He has climbed Mount Everest nine times.
"I'm on the Kamchatka peninsula now, and I haven't been here for 40 years. Looking at this region from the height of the Avachinskaya Sopka volcano, I understand that geographers still have a lot of work here," the traveler shared his opinion.
Geographer's Day
Geographer's Day is celebrated in Russia annually on 18 August. It was established on the initiative of the Russian Geographical Society, which was supported by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. On 15 May, 2019, the Head of state approved a list of events aimed at popularizing geographical knowledge in society.
This holiday is celebrated not only by geographical scientists, but also by people of many professions related to geography: researchers, educators at schools and universities, employees of ministries and departments, workers, members of scouting programmes for children, environmentalists, polar explorers, and many others.
The geography of the "Journey Across Russia" exposition at the National Centre RUSSIA is extensive — from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. The history, cultural heritage, natural resources, scientific and industrial achievements of all eight federal districts of our country are presented here.
For example, in the exposition of the Far Eastern Federal District, you can see a portrait and learn about the achievements of Vladimir Arsenyev, a geographer, traveler, ethnographer and writer, who explored Primorye, the Sikhote-Alin mountain range, and the Ussuri basin.
Admission to the exposition "Journey Across Russia" is free as part of guided tours, which are organised through prior registration on the russia.ru website in the "Events" section.
The All-Russian Youth SHUM Award in the field of media and journalism, which will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA, extends the application deadline until 24 August.
On 7 September at 16:00, in the capital of the Primorye region — the city of Vladivostok — a ceremonial opening of the branch of the National Centre RUSSIA will take place.
