Three Ded Morozes from Karelia came to the RUSSIA EXPO at once
The arrival of winter grandfathers continued the tradition of Ded Moroz Days at the Exposition, which started on November 18.
The oldest winter wizard from Karelia is called Ded Halla. His age is so venerable that he is considered Santa Claus' older brother. Outwardly, he resembles his brother with his curly beard and round glasses. And his name means "frost" in Old Saami.
Another Karelian Ded Moroz is a little younger - Talvi Ukko, which means "winter grandfather". He is dressed in a large fur hat with a tail. According to legend, he rides on a reindeer sled and is always accompanied by dogs - huskies and malamutes, whom he loves very much.
The most interesting and unusual character in the line of New Year wizards is Pakkaine. He does not wear a beard, but looks like a young Saami hero - bogatyr. Pakkaine, according to legend, is the son of an Olonets merchant who was born on the road in a severe frost. "I'm really not a grandfather, I'm a young Frost. I live in Olonets, where we regularly organize Olonets New Year games. Come and visit us, it's fun and interesting at our place", — said Pakkaine.
The trinity of Karelian wizards not only delighted visitors with gifts and wishes: younger schoolchildren from Moscow schools today also brought gifts - their New Year drawings, which they handed to the wizards.
The series of visits to the Exposition by winter wizards started on November 18 with the celebration of the birthday of the most famous Ded Moroz, who lives in Veliky Ustyug. Last weekend, the Tuvan winter wizard Sook Irey and Kodzyd Pol from the Komi Republic visited the exposition.
