The light of lamps connecting eras: the Hall of Inventions at the National Centre RUSSIA
One of the
most significant links between the past and the future is the advanced human
thought embodied in physical reality. A vivid representation of this concept is
provided by the Hall of Inventions at the National Centre RUSSIA. Here, in a
single exposition, the most remarkable technological achievements of various
eras are combined with the best works of global science fiction, which served
as sources of inspiration for creating these inventions.
The exposition is arranged in such a way that it is easy to understand which literary work became the "predecessor" of a particular discovery. On the left side, stands narrate the lives of science fiction writers and their immortal creations, while the most striking quotes "anticipating" progress are also displayed. In turn, the technologies born from literary lines can be found on the stands to the right — directly opposite their literary "predecessors." These include high-speed trains, spacecraft, neuroprosthetics, android robots, wireless mobile phones, and even modern social networks.
One might
wonder: "What does the light of lamps have to do with this?" The
answer lies in the fact that the walls of the Hall are adorned with truly
magical lighting devices, whose designs reflect the style and unique character
of the major eras in the development of global technological progress. Every
visitor can turn on a lamp — and when they do, a bright light trail begins to run
upward from the lamp to the opposite wall, symbolizing the journey from an idea
to its realization.
Visitors
can explore the inventions up close either on their own or during a free guided
tour of the National Centre RUSSIA, which departs every 15 minutes from the
main information desk. We welcome guests every day except Monday, from 10:00 to
20:00.
